Kennrod Update

2021 has been very busy with the planning and implementation of our Facebook Live-streaming Sessions, collaboration with our partner schools and tutoring centers, and increasing our board membership! Now is a good time to provide you an update on our efforts and our plans for the upcoming school year.

COVID-19 caused us to pause our in-person interactions in an abundance of caution in order to protect everyone. As a result, we were able to implement the Facebook Live-streaming Sessions as a way to stay connected to students, families, and the greater community. We are grateful to Pete Kane, with Digital Growth ATL and his team, for providing this great resource to us during the 2020-2021 school year! Our last scheduled session will take place on Wednesday, May 26th at 10:00AM. Our special guest will be Phyllis Clerk (see photo), a career prosecutor, currently working with the United States Attorney’s Office as an Assistant Attorney where she prosecutes major crimes to include, bank robberies, firearms violations, immigration cases, child pornography and human trafficking cases.

Kennrod has continued to collaborate with partner schools and tutoring centers. We are currently identifying needs for the upcoming school year to best determine our fundraising efforts. It is important to also mention that we are planning to resume in-person programming to include school activities and field trips, beginning August 2021. Our student goals are as follows:

  • to increase field trips to colleges/universities and businesses

  • to increase the number of partner tutoring centers

  • to increase funding for field trips and tutoring

We are proud to welcome our latest board members- Bryan Rivers and Savannah Rose Johnson! Both are passionate about giving back to the community and working to inspire the youth. We feel confident that they will do a great job helping us continue to move our programming forward.

June and July will be focused on increasing our fundraising efforts, planning for the 2021-2022 school year, and planning our 5th Anniversary Fundraising Event! We will certainly keep everyone posted on our progress.

Have a safe and enjoyable summer break!

My best,

Kelley
